Cycle-Ops Wind Trainer for indoor bicycle riding?

Anybody every used a Cycle-Ops wind bicycle resistance trainer?

How does it compare to the Blackburn wind trainers of the 90s?

Still as loud?

I’m looking at one used for $60 and wondering if it’s worth buying or if I should hold out for a mag trainer.

Yep, they’re still pretty noisy…..no way around it. For the price, it’s not a bad deal really, if you don’t mind the noise. There are lots of used trainers out there, so if you’d rather have a mag or fluid unit, you should be able to find one cheap and easily. Fluid is really nice, but if you get one, consider the Kurt Kinetics above all others.

Personally, I think a set of rollers is great, and you can get resistance units as an option on some models. You can’t hammer quite as hard (or not without paying attention anyway) on rollers as you can on a trainer, but they have lots of other training advantages.

ALL wind trainers are noisy … that’s how they provide resistance (think about how loud the floor fan gets as the speed increases!).

For a quieter session, go for magnetic or fluid resistance versions.

Personally, the noise from the wind unit is too distracting for me after about 15 minutes … so I use a Cycle-Ops fluid trainer with power meter myself.
